Biltmore Park Town Square

Save

Located in Asheville, North Carolina and adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Biltmore Park Town Square represents a continuation of elegant placemaking in the Biltmore tradition. Developed jointly by Biltmore Farms (the heirs of George W. Vanderbilt, the benefactor of architect Richard Morris Hunt’s and Frederick Law Olmstead’s incredible 19th century Biltmore Estate) and Crosland, Biltmore Park Town Square is a 21st century catalyst for placemaking and economic growth.

The conceptual plan for Biltmore Park Town Square balances the need for incorporation of contemporary development requirements with the natural beauty of the land, and neo-traditional design principles. With these principles in mind and in response to the mountain topography, the design of the town plan evolved featuring characteristics of good towns of the past while recognizing contemporary development requirements and lifestyle demands of the 21st century.

The 42-acre project, contained within a 735 acre tract, is located on a gently sloping terrace between mountainous slopes and a creek. Connected via a series of roads to a 400 acre up-slope residential community by the same name, Biltmore Park Town Square is a very dense village, combining retail, movie theatre, office, hotel, rental housing, university facilities, condominiums and a YMCA into a compact development. The site is adjoined by three elementary and secondary schools and is in close proximity to a regional airport.. There are many overlapping sustainable aspects the team was able to capitalize on, including a state of the art infrastructure, best practice storm water and erosion measures, reduced vehicular dependency as a result of a mixed use environment, pedestrian and bicycle friendly design, development wide low flow fixtures, significantly reduced irrigation, and shared structured parking.

Thoughtfully demonstrating how urban form can coexist with the natural environment in order to create a unique place of convening.

Biltmore Park Town Square is a certified LEED-ND Neighborhood Development. The project also contains two LEED-Certified buildings, (Core & Shell: Gold Certification- Office above Retail building & New Construction: Silver Certification- Hotel above Retail building.) Biltmore Park Town Square won a 2011 ICSC U.S. Design & Development Silver Award for the Innovative Use of a New Project in the range of retail projects between 150,001 and 500,000 square feet of total retail space.

Biltmore Park Town Square is an inspirational re-invention of the Main Streets of the past, a time when towns and villages were planned so that all of life happened within walking distance. As the first new dense mixed-use community in Asheville since George Vanderbilt established Biltmore Village, the project offers a blend of recreation destinations, residential options, and premier office space mixed with spectacular North Carolina mountain views and green spaces that celebrate Asheville’s natural beauty.
